Brad Pitt sported a new tattoo on his inner left forearm of an outline of Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider character. Sky Showbiz points out that he was seen out with the tattoo yesterday, and I’ve tried to find the high resolution versions to no avail. I did find some pictures from 5/14 that show that same arm without the tattoo, so it seems to be recent. Note: This is no longer true, I found pictures from 5/14 with the tattoo, as shown below.

Last March Pitt was seen with a tattoo on his lower back that was said to be a Sanskrit Buddhist blessing meant to protect his adopted son, Maddox. It is similar to a tattoo that Angelina has on her back.

Angelina has many tattoos, including the coordinates of Zahara and Maddox’s birthplaces, a large tiger on her lower back, and the inscription “Know your Rights” on the back of her neck.

That’s a cute new tattoo that Brad’s sporting and I’ll be looking for a better picture of it.

Yesterday a story came out that Angelina said “Parents do separate” when talking about Brad Pitt. The quote was taken out of context, and she said a lot of flattering things about Pitt and their family in the interview, so it seems to be the tabloids making up a story where there is none.

Update 2: Thanks to eagle-eyed commentor Alison, who points out that the tattoo is an outline of the iceman, Ötzi, who was found in an Italian glacier in 1991. He is thought to be around 5,300 years old and is Europe’s oldest natural human mummy. A picture of the outline of Oetzi from the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology website is show to the left. The tattoo does bear a resemblance to the swinging ponytail image of Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider character, and maybe that was deliberate.

I’m not really buying this, because the story comes from Mike Walker’s column in the National Enquirer, where there’s a celebrity hero story just about every week, but of course I’m not above repeating it.

Brad Pitt was said to be riding his motorcyle when he saw a women in a car getting beat up by her husband. He intervened, stopped the guy from abusing her, and stayed with the battered woman until a relative came to pick her up. That is, at least, according to this too good to be true story, but it’s a nice mental image anyway:

The star had just pulled into a Malibu gas station for a… er, pitt stop when he heard screams and spotted a guy smacking a woman around inside a parked car. Leaping off his bike, Brad yelled: “HEY MAN… what do you think you’re doing” Ignoring him, El Creep-o rained blows on the sobbing woman - until Brad reached through a window and grabbed his arm! In a fury, the guy roared: “EFF YOU!… She’s my wife, so I can do whatever I want!” Customers who’d come running cheered as Brad yelled: “Hey… you can’t slap a woman!” As he and the bully faced off, the woman suddenly shoved her way out of the car… Wife-Beater peeled rubber and split! The woman, crying hysterically, refused to call cops. She had an ugly bruise on one cheekbone, so gallant Brad ran into the station and brought ice - then stayed with her until a relative she’d phoned picked her up.

If this is even partially true, wouldn’t it have been picked up by at least the local Malibu news and why is only Mike Walker privy to this information Still, I like to think of Brad Pitt as the heroic type and am sure he would have saved the woman if he actually witnessed something like this. In fact any of those hotties in Oceans 13 would have done the same thing. They’re all heroes - gorgeous helpful heroes - in the minds of bored housewives like me.

The National Enquirer leads with a cover story this week about how the drug dealers to the stars tell all. There are several blind items that kind of elude me that I’ll mention at the end of this post. Some of the details seem like they’re rehashed from interviews with the stars, while others are new.

Among the tidbits that are new to me is a supposed suicide bid by a coked-out Charlie Sheen. Sheen, who has since quit drugs, once threatened to kill himself in front of two prostitutes he was having sex with, claims a supposed drug dealer. He put a gun to his head and said he was going to shoot when he backed down and raged that he wasn’t going to do them the courtesy.

Brad Pitt was a heavy dope smoker in the late ’90s, they say, with tons of bongs and pot around his place:

The late ’90s marked a time of hardcore marijuana use for Brad Pitt, said the dealer, who reveals details Brad has kept secret for all these years.

“Pitt was heavily into marijuana then. You’d walk into his house, and there were different grades of dope and lots of bongs and smoking paraphernalia sitting on a table,” the dealer divulged.

Back then, Pitt was notorious for lighting up a joint as soon as he woke up, a routine called “Wake ‘n Bake.”

Pitt was also a regular customer at a now-closed drug pharaphernalia shop called 2000BC on L.A.’s trendy Melrose Avenue, said a former employee.

“Brad once came in and spend $1,500 on a dozen bongs to give for the cast and crew of a film he’d just finidhed,” the employee recalled.

That reminds me of Pitt’s character in 1993’s True Romance with Christian Slater, and these pictures are screencaps from that film. It would be rather fitting if all the bongs he bought for cast and crew were for that movie, as he played a pothead.

Blind Items mentioned in the article include a pretty juicy once about a Hollywood druggie family:

• An entire A-list family bought their drugs from the same dealer… “The couple’s kid was scoring between $3,000 and $6,000 worth of crystal meth a week from me, so he had to be dealing too,” the dealer - who passed a lie detector test - told The Enquirer.
  “The old lady, who was once one of Hollywood’s more gorgeous actresses, initially wouldn’t take the stuff from me. She’d have her kid get it. But then we became close friends and I did coke with her.”

And there’s another vague blind item:

• “One crack-using actor kept trashing hotel suites in Maui. Finally, we partied on a private beach, where he held an orgy one night.”

Those blind items might not be true, but I’m really wondering who the famous family is.

The article also repeats the story where Angelina is quoted in an interview as saying “I’ve done just about every drug possible. Cocaine, heroin, Ecstasy, LSD.”

Compared to Angelina, Brad’s few lost months in a pot haze seem rather tame.

Brad Pitt, who dropped out of college a week before he was due to graduate (probably not with honors) to drive to LA and take a shot at acting, once had a job as a chauffer for strippers. He said if it wasn’t for that depressing job, he would not have met a stripper who got him to go to an acting class that inspired him to pursue it as a career.

He made the confession to a Newsweek journalist during a roundtable discussion that included other potential Oscar nominees Helen Mirren, Forest Witaker, Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Q: It seems every actor, no matter how successful, thinks he’ll never work again. Do you feel that way, Brad
BRAD PITT: Not really, no. [Laughter]

Q: You all had some surprising early jobs before you became actors. Forest was a classical tenor. Helen was a sort of carnival barker.
PITT: I had a job driving strippers around.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO: Really

BLANCHETT: Just last month.

PITT: I love her. Yeah, my job was to drive them to bachelor parties and things. I’d pick them up, and at the gig I’d collect the money, play the bad Prince tapes and catch the girls’ clothes. It was not a wholesome atmosphere, and it got very depressing. After two months I went in to quit, and the guy said, “Listen, I’ve got this one last gig tonight.” So I did it, and this girl”I’d never met her before”was in an acting class taught by a man named Roy London [a famous acting coach]. I went and checked it out, and it really set me on the path to where I am now.

Q: A stripper changed the course of your career.
PITT: [Nods] Strippers changed my life.

Q; We’ll see that in the National Enquirer next week.
PITT: [Looks toward the ceiling] I just want one week off. Just one.

If Pitt wants a week off he should stop telling such great stories about his past. You know he was banging that stripper and he took the acting class to impress her, just like he learned to fly after he hooked up with Angie. Maybe if that stripper was into horseback riding instead he’d be living on a farm now.

They say that despite the fact that we can easily find these commercials thanks to the Internet, it shouldn’t really hurt their branding in the US.

British newspaper The Guardian has a cautionary piece for Brad Pitt, saying that his career isn’t as great as it once was and that he can’t measure up to Matt Damon’s rising star. Damon has a big hit with the Bourne series and is playing meaty roles lately like in the super-boring Good Shepherd. All Pitt put out last year was Babel, which The Guardian deems pretentious, and although he’s been working a lot lately 2007 doesn’t have many great movies in store for Pitt.

They say the only promising film that Pitt is making in 2007 is The Fabulous Case of Benjamin Button, which won’t come out until Christmas time. The Oceans movies are kind of dragging him down, and he’s not really standing out in any films.

They say he hasn’t made any standout films since 1999:

That was 1999, and the last time he seemed awake and having fun. Moreover, from the outset, audiences have fun to the degree that he’s having a good time. We like to see that cheeky grin. But what we got instead was a series of films where the smile was fake or absent: Snatch, The Mexican, Spy Game (with Robert Redford - the kiss of death), Ocean’s Eleven, Full Frontal, the flat-out disaster of playing Achilles in Troy (I don’t think Achilles ever smiles), Ocean’s Twelve and Mr & Mrs Smith.

The latter was a hit, because the public was interested to see him with Angelina Jolie, yet it was hard to avoid the feeling that she was a lot sexier and smarter than he was. As for the two Ocean films - where he plays sidekick Rusty Ryan - they may have seemed like three months out with the boys and a sure cheque, but they have done no one involved any good. George Clooney survives because of all the other things he does. The same goes for Matt Damon. But Brad Pitt is behaving as if they were real jobs of work.

He has plenty of work coming up, including a third Ocean film, The Assassination of Jesse James (which really seems to be a film about Ben Affleck playing Bob Ford), and yet another David Fincher project, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which comes from an F Scott Fitzgerald story about a guy who keeps getting younger (a nice hope). I’d say the Fincher picture can’t come too soon, but it’s not likely to appear until next Christmas. Time for Pitt to think very hard about that crew cut he’s adopted, to learn to smile again, to say goodbye to Ocean and to realise that Angelina Jolie is riding her own private tsunami which other people are not expected to survive.

I say when you’re a star like Pitt and make so much money, who cares It’s not like he’s Ben Affleck and has to be super careful about the films he’s making. He already has a great career and although he hasn’t won an Oscar or anything he’s not likely to slip from the A list. Sure DiCaprio, Damon and Craig are now stars to watch out for, but Pitt will always set women’s hearts aflutter.

He looks a little bit weathered now although he could be just tired out from a gruelling schedule. He is shown at the Palm Springs film festival on Saturday, where the cast of Babel received an award. When asked if he would have more kids with Angelina, he gave their standard answer “Of course.” Pitt, Jolie and their family will be living in New Orleans for the next few months while Pitt is filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
