Johnny Depp has urged the British press to stop hounding his former girlfriend Kate Moss and her new lover Pete Doherty - because they are “great together”. The Pirates Of The Caribbean star - who dated the supermodel in the mid-1990s - admits he wasn’t a good influence on her, but insists she and the troubled Babyshambles rocker are a good match.

He says, “I was not good for Kate. But she’s a strong girl and a great girl and very smart.

“Dragging her through the mud like that - they (the newspapers) are weird and two-faced. Let her be! I have never met Pete Doherty, but I think he has talent and he and Kate could be great together. She’s got a great brain on her and she’s a great mommy.”

Moss is mother to four-year-old Lila Grace, whose father is media mogul Jefferson Hack.

Kate, 33, grew up with James, 33, in Croydon, and he’s the man responsible for creating her blonde, tousled lusted-after locks.

‘Kate is giving her advice and expertise from years in the fashion industry,’ one source tells The Sun. ‘The products will feature her image but, unlike her Topshop clothing range, they won’t have Kate Moss branding.

‘James grew up with Kate and he has been massively supportive to her throughout her career.’

The supermodel is no doubt hoping the venture will add more pennies to her estimated 45 million fortune.

Moss, who recently launched her fashion range in the UK, as well as the US, said that she was no different from other girls.

The 33 year old held a party at Barneys department store in New York to celebrate her debut collection. Moss, who was accompanied by best pal Sadie Frost, had all the explanations on why her collection would sell.

“I know what I like to wear and I think it’s the kind of taste a lot of other women will like too,” she said.

Moss also received a 50,000 pound diamond bracelet as a gift by Topshop boss Sir Philip Green as a thank you token for her brief appearance in a store window during the London launch.

Model turned fashion designer Kate Moss, has attended a swish party in the New York store “Barneys” to celebrate the launch of her Topshop range last night.

The supermodel was guest of honour at the exclusive bash, celebrating her clothing line going on sale in the famous store today.

Kate’s range for the popular British high street chain has already been a hit in the UK, after coming out last week.

As in the UK, Barneys paid tribute to the style icon’s designs by dedicating all their window displays to her collection.

Fashion expert and party guest Maria Ioannou said: “We have always been fascinated by the seemingly effortless British sense of style.

“And when it comes to Kate Moss, what’s not to love about a woman who seems to party all night and come out the other end looking fabulous”

Kate Moss admits she is difficult to work with. The supermodel, who is designing a range for high street chain Topshop, has revealed she is a perfectionist and always speaks her mind.
She said, “Topshop haven’t said no to anything I wanted to do. I’ve said, ‘This isn’t good enough’, or ‘This fabric doesn’t feel right, it’s too stiff’, or ‘This leather is too shiny, it needs to be more matt’ and they have done it.” advertisement

She said, “I can’t sketch and I can’t make clothes. I think they kind of copy me sometimes. At the time of writing, Moss was thousands of votes short of making their 100 Sexiest Women readers’ poll. FHM spokesman Chris Bell said: ‘In the fashion world, Kate is considered one of the most beautiful women, but according to FHM readers, she’s past it.’
Bell added that hanging out with Pete Doherty had left Moss ‘weathered’ and his readers preferred someone ‘more womanly’. Presumably someone like the FHM poll front runner, glamour model Keeley Hazell - a hottie blessed with the kind of chest a tragically confused Sir Ranulph Fiennes might one day attempt to climb. One imagines that it would be difficult to fill a small room with men who couldn’t find something about Hazell they liked. One imagines that the same room could be allocated to women who’d actually heard of her.
For Hazell is one of those ‘invisible ink’ women - as in, culturally invisible to one gender while visible with a (hormonally charged) vengeance to the other. The irony is noteworthy: when women all over the country are preparing to buy Moss’s clothes at Topshop, the males of the parish are losing interest in her taking them off. It seems bizarre that women opt for Moss as their Favourite-Ever Modernday Icon while the readers of a men’s magazine wouldn’t even place her in their top 100. Would it be too paranoid to put the whole thing down to their relative ages - the fact that Hazell is 20 (good), while Moss is 33 (bad)
Don’t be stupid, say several male sources. As in, of course it isn’t too paranoid. One man said: ‘I’ve never heard of this Keeley, but I already fancy her from your description “20-year-old glamour model”.’ Another reminded me that, despite centuries of evolution and decades of equality, male loins remain strangers to feminism: ‘Testosterone tells no lies. One wonders if this is just another misogynistic Catch 22 - a woman may be beautiful but not young enough; young, but not beautiful enough. It could just be the Gender Beauty gap - that omnipresent blind spot whereby men often simply don’t ‘get’ the females that women like, and vice versa. There was a time where men and women could safely agree that, say, Ava Gardner was The Sexiest, Most Beautiful Woman on the Planet.
Now it’s not so simple. You get the rare cases such as Jordan straddling both camps - starting off as an exclusively male phenomenon, all breasts and thongs, then cleverly morphing into Katie Price, female survival icon. Sometimes you even get it the other way (Sienna Miller was once a Fashion Miss, now the FHM readers have grabbed her for their Sexiest poll). Ultimately it doesn’t make any difference. You’re always going to get men who have to have it slowly and painfully explained to them why Jennifer Aniston is interesting. The amazing thing is that now we have to explain Kate Moss to them, too. That’s the trouble with the female brain - it’s just not kept near enough to our trousers.

A bizarre home video of Pete Doherty and beauty Kate Moss has been posted on internet site YouTube. In the video, halfnaked Kate yells at the troubled rocker: “Rot in jail you c***! Rot, rot, rot, rot, rot, rot.”
The weird footage was shot by the Babyshambles frontman at Kate’s cottage in the Cotswolds.
It shows Pete filming himself sitting in a room playing one of his new songs, while a scantily clad Kate - cavorts in a chair next to him.
She randomly interrupts his singing by either joining in or hurling obscenities at him.
Swinging her legs and puffing on a cigarette, she begins by whistling along to Pete’s new tune - KP Nuts, a reference to their first names, Kate and Pete.
As he sings sweetly, “you’re giving all your precious love to someone that I… I just couldn’t find”, Kate chips in with: “Rot in jail you c***!”
She then kicks out at him, nearly knocking him off his chair. Then, singing along with him, she jokes: “Sonny and Cher we’re not.”
The pair then have a bizarre exchange over one of his lyrics, when he sings: “Underneath the oak tree.”
Kate then replies: “What oak tree”
“The oak tree,” says Pete.
To which she cries: “You’re such a liar, such a liar. And a fantasist.”
Pete then begins to sing the “la la la” section of the song, which prompts the woozy Kate to say “Don’t la la me”.
